We always hold our main Lodge meetings on the second Tuesday in the months below, commencing with the Installation of the Master for the year in September, followed by regular meetings in November, December, January, February, March & April. The Lodge of Instruction or LOI, at which we learn more about Freemasonry, always meets on the first Tuesday of the month with the exception of June, July and August. It also meets on the second Tuesday of October.
The Lodge Officers involved in our ceremonies always meet to rehearse on the day before the main Lodge meeting. Lodge meetings are always held on the same days in the month - there are no surprises and no Brother can claim ignorance of the dates when his Lodge meets!
Details of our next few main Lodge meetings and some other events are shown below. Unless otherwise specified, all meetings take place at the Wallingford Masonic Centre.
Programme for 2020
In line with guidance from Grand Lodge and Provincial Grand Lodge, we have cancelled all meetings, social events, and Lodges of Instruction until further notice. We held an installation meeting in September but the government rules have since changed. Current officers will continue in their respective offices for the ensuing masonic year.
We anticipate low attendance for the balance of the year and some meetings may consist of only opening and closing the lodge. More information as it becomes available. Keep safe and use social media to keep in touch with your Brothers.
October - no meeting scheduled November - awaiting advice regarding new rules to prevent virus transmission.
Reopening the Wallingford Masonic Centre in a safe mode for 7 September has taken a lot of work by the Centre Management, and our WB Secretary, and our WB Treasurer for his risk assessment study. In line with UGLE guidelines, the restrictions on usage are repeated below:
Responsibilities of the Lodge, Lodge Secretary and or Director of Ceremonies
Prior to the meeting 1) The Wallingford Centre will contact Lodge Secretaries ahead of all meetings to discuss thefollowing requirements. Your meeting cannot proceed until this discussion has taken place and all the below pre-requested assurances are given.
2) The Wallingford Centre will issue this briefing document to Secretaries ahead of all meetings. As there are legal requirements, you will need to share it with and explain it to, all your attending members and visitors before the meeting.
3) The Wallingford Centre will require written confirmation (email is acceptable) that: a. These instructions have been received and that they have been briefed to your members ahead of the meeting. b. Lodge Members have been advised that if they are showing any cold or flu-like symptoms they MUST NOT attend, regardless of their office or role, and in line with Government guidance should self-isolate for the appropriate period.
4) Compliance with these instructions and those notified throughout the building itself, is not optional, and we urge you to remind your members of this.
5) The building as a whole is currently restricted to 40 attendees at any one time, inclusive of staff and commercial or Masonic events and limited to 26 in the Temple plus a Tyler in the Craft Configuration and a maximum of 30 in the main dining hall (when in use). (Maximum legal numbers in the Temple for other Orders is to be agreed between the Centre Board and Lodge Secretary before permission is granted for the lodge to use the Centre).
Use of the Changing Rooms, Board Room, Offices, Bar. Kitchen, Male Toilets and Main Dining Hall is not permitted.
6) At least 2 workings days before the planned meeting, you must advise the Wallingford Centre of the number of members attending (which cannot then be increased), their names and a contact number. Please note: a. The maximum number legally allowed to attend in any case is 26 plus Tyler. (Craft) b. Meetings will not be permitted to proceed if more than 26 brethren attempt to attend. c. Maximum numbers legally allowed to attend in orders other than the Craft are to be agreed, in advance, between the Lodge Secretary and the Centre Chairman.
7) At the time of confirming the meeting details, you must advise the Wallingford Centre of the business to be undertaken at the meeting and how long you expect the meeting to be. A copy of the agenda is probably the easiest way to achieve this.
8) Contact surfaces in the Centre will be cleaned by your Safety Steward, or designated member, prior to the meeting taking place. A full list of lodge cleaning responsibility is at paragraph 35. The safety steward or designated members is to use the cleaning products and protective gloves stored in the cleaning stations for that purpose.
9) Current UGLE guidelines do not allow festive boards, or 3rd degree ceremonies.

On the day of the meeting Car Parking 10) Until further notice the car park is closed and the main entrance door restricted to use for entry only. All parking for any members is in the Waitrose car park. Only those members with serious mobility issues are permitted to park in the Courtyard.
Face Covering and Gloves 11) A facemask or covering is to be worn at meetings in accordance with the instructions issued by the Provincial Craft Executive. Members should bring their own masks. The Wallingford Centre will not supply facemasks. When the bar is opened whilst waiting in the queue to be served Face Masks are to be worn.
12) Provincial advice currently dictates that gloves must NOT be worn at meetings. Gloves are known transmitters; hands are far easier to keep clean.
Building Access and Use 13) Only the Secretary, DC, Tyler and Safety Steward is allowed to enter the building more than 15 minutes ahead of the meeting. This access is to be controlled by a designated lodge member. Initial entry is via the changing room door after which all entry to the Centre is via the main entrance.
14) All other attendees must be advised ahead of the meeting that they are not permitted to enter the building until 15 minutes before the meeting.
15) All attendees must on arrival: a. Use the hand sanitizer at the Masonic entrance, before entering the Temple. b. Report to the Lodge Secretary who will book them into the meeting. (track and trace requirement)
Robing 16) Use of the changing room other than for access from the building is prohibited.
17) All members must take their regalia cases directly to the Temple and change for the meeting at the place where they intend to sit for the meeting.
18) Masonic Regalia must immediately be taken to cars after the meeting has finished.
19) If there is a need to re-enter the building having deposited regalia in cars this must be via the Main entrance only and the hand sanitizing routine reapplied.
20) Toilet can only be accessed from the main entrance. Members wishing to use the toilet when situated in the Temple must exit the building via the Changing Room and reenter the building via the Main Door to comply with the one-way system established for safety.
Moving around the Building 21) Please remember compliance with these directives is NOT optional. 22) In moving around the building, members must follow any instruction given on signage throughout. Several areas are not in use; these are the main hall, kitchen, bar, toilets adjacent to the bar, the upstairs boardroom, office and stairs. A two-way system will operate into the toilets from the main hall. Precedence is to be given to members leaving the toilet. (Please see the attached map of the Centre)
23) When opened, the Bar will set out to enable social distancing; furniture and signage must not be moved and only allowable seating is to be used. (NOT APPLICABLE AT PRESENT)
24) When opened, please do not congregate at the bar and observe the 2m social distancing rules at all times. Drinks should be consumed in the Main Dining Room. Drinks will be served in disposal glasses. Members will be responsible for disposing of his glass at the end of the night. (NOT APPLICABLE AT PRESENT)
25) When opened, the Kitchen is restricted to 2 people only. Members will collect their preplated food from the servery as no table service is permitted. (NOT APPLICABLE AT PRESENT)
Lodge Rooms Arrangements 26) Hand sanitizers have been provided at the entrance to the Centre, please use it before entering every time.
27) The Temple has been specifically laid out in the Craft configuration to meet COVID distancing restrictions. Progressive orders wishing to change the layout of the Lodge furniture to meet their requirements must agree the format with the Centre management prior to their meeting. Lodges will be responsible for arranging and returning the Temple back to the craft format. To minimize handling in the Temple only one set of tools, tracing boards and gavels will be used. The Portcullis Lodge tools, tracing boards and gavels are to be used as are the Ingham Clark Lodge columns as being newer they will are well varnished and will therefore be easier to sanitize.
28) To minimize the risk of cross contamination the wearing of officer’s collars is not permitted. Likewise the wearing of officer’s robes and other commonly used regalia is forbidden. (Only personal regalia is to be worn during the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic emergency)
29) To minimize the risk of cross contamination Lodge Safety Officers, or a designate, are the only ones to put out and return lodge furniture. Such items such as banners etc are not to be used. All items displayed must be returned to the same location at the end of the meeting and by the same person.
30) The Lodge safety officers, or a designate, will sanitize the top surfaces of each pedestal, desk surface and chair arms to be used during the meeting both before and after the meeting. Likewise all lodge furniture such as wands and gavels are to be sanitized by the Lodge safety officer, or designate, before and after the meeting.
Use of Toilets 31) To meet COVID restrictions, only 2 persons will be permitted into the toilet area at any one time. The level of allowable occupancy will be clearly indicated on or near the door. Members wanting to access the toilet should wait in the main entrance hall until the person vacating the toilet has left the toilet corridor completely. After using the cubicles, members are required to sanitize it using the wipes and other products provided, before vacating the cubicle. Toilets must be flushed after use with the toilet lid down to prevent against faecal – oral transmission.
After the Meeting Finishes 32) When the meeting has finished the Lodge Secretary or safety Steward is asked to ensure the use of sanitizing wipes provided to clean the contact points of any furniture used. Secretaries will also be responsible for signing out all members after the meeting.
Cleaning 33) An increased cleaning regime will be in force and it will be the responsibility of the Lodge Safety Steward to ensure the building is safe to use by sanitizing all common touch points and surfaces both before and after meetings.
Lodge Responsibility for Centre Cleaning 34) As the Wallingford Centre is run on a self-help basis we do not have the luxury of staff being to able to oversee the compliance with the instructions contained within this document. It is therefore of the utmost importance that all members show self discipline in their compliance and do all they can to ensure the health and safety of both themselves and of their companions. A key factor in inhibiting the spread of Covid 19 is to keep all surfaces clear of the virus.
35) Before commencing to sanitize, the designated member must wear the protective gloves provided. Using the sanitizing spray and wipes provided by the Centre Management, the designated member(s) both before and after their meeting, are to: a. Spray and wipe down spray all contact points liable to be touched by members on entering and exiting the Temple. (This includes the front door, Temple door, Storeroom door and the Changing Room door.) b. Spray and wipe down the toilet door, toilet cubical and the washbasins. c. Spray and wipe down the 26 chairs located in the Temple. d. Spray and wipe down all lodge furniture liable to be touched or has been touched by members during the course of the meeting. It is particularly important wands, gavels and other lodge furniture is sanitized before it is put away to minimize the risk of any cross contamination between Lodges e. Sign the cleaning Logbook, located in the cleaning station in the Changing Room, to show the above work was undertaken. f. Used gloves and wipes are to be disposed of in the rubbish bin by the front gate on completion of the Cleaning exercise.
36) Such is the importance of the cleaning task that the Lodge Secretary is to ensure the work is undertaken and is to countersign the cleaning log book to that effect.
Payment 37) When the bar reopens plans are in hand to make payment for goods received by contactless cards. This paragraph will be undated as more information on the card reader method to be used becomes available.
Safety of Wallingford Volunteers 38) While the safety of all volunteers who assist in the running of the Centre is paramount, it is a requirement of their role to ensure that Covid regulations are followed by members and visitors alike. Please do not put them in a position where they need to intervene, incurring additional risk to them.
Safety Stewards Responsibility 38) It is the responsibility of the named Lodge Safety Steward to ensure the rules highlighted in this document are complied with. Any breach of these rules may have legal implications both on himself, the Lodge and the Centre Board.
Individual Responsibility 39) In the event a member becomes sick having attended a meeting at the Centre he is to advise both his Lodge secretary and the Wallingford Masonic Centre immediately. The Lodge Secretary is also to advise the Centre of any ill health of his members to ensure the appropriate action can be taken to clean the Centre after an outbreak of Coved 19 has been reported.
Caution: Do not shake hands until the virus has been defeated.
